Context Matters

Sigh.

This was tweeted today, June 10, 2020 during a time where everyone hates the police.

This photo was taken June 28, 2014 at a police cadet graduation ceremony.

The car was donated by a couple in order to be used at charity events and promos.

It took me 8 minutes to find the original picture, why the LAPD has one, and where it was. It took the horde 5 seconds to retweet and add “OMFG!!!!!! DEFUND THE POLICE!!!!!”

This post won’t make a dent because it’s more fun to pile on without considering:

  • who took the photo?
  • where did it come from?
  • when was it taken?
  • who is this person tweeting it? (the point isn’t to embarrass the person, but yes, they are a ‘journalist’)

I am happy a small minority replied with fact, I am disappointed that most did not and just piled on.

Don’t be a jackass. Use your head first because context matters.
